Yesterday we learned that after more than a decade of falling teen pregnancy rates they started to rise more than 3% starting in 2005. Which just happens to correspond with 4 years of the nonsense our religious zealots pushed on us called Abstinence only education. What we have discovered is that teenagers indeed don’t always do what they are told in the absence of any good reason! For Heavens sake what a insight! I thought we learned that with the ineffective JUST SAY NO! campaign of the 90’s.
You see Dear Reader a sure fire way to get a teenager to do something is to tell him or her not to do it with the absences of any good reason. While still quite dim, teens actually do have reasoning capability which they use somewhat effectively. For example, take two teenagers and put them in a chair in the middle of different rooms. Tell one that there is a trap door which will be set off if he gets up. Tell the other one that he or she will be smited because a 2000 year old book says not to get up. Who indeed do you think will be getting up first!
Now indeed there is nothing wrong with suggesting to our future generation it might be a good idea to wait a bit before humping every Mary Jane Rottencrotch. But you must assume that they will probably not listen to you since nature has indeed hardwired us to want to hump just about anything that moves at that age. You see way back when our ancestors were coming down from the trees and we could expect to live until about 25 until something large and rather scary ate us evolution (yes yet another thing these moron’s don’t believe in) suggested to us at puberty that we indeed should bang as many females as possible before we became dinner thus propagating our race.
On the other hand if you show these somewhat brain damaged teens (hey we are all brain damaged until at least 24) the consequences of such actions without a 99 cent piece of rubber on their Willy. Perhaps, just perhaps they may take such precautions particularly if they don’t get price checked in the local pharmacy.
Thankfully funding for such inane program has now been eliminated. But for my fundamentalist readers I have indeed another solution. Spanking of course. If we encourage our teen men to spank their young girlfriends rather then play hide the salami I do think you would get many more takers than promise rings and its considerably more fun! (well maybe not for the female).

Regarding your comment about a shortage of girls in China, that was the first thing I thought of when I read, back in 1980 or so, that the Chinese government was instituting a “one-child only” policy. The population had got so huge, the government forced families to have no more than one child. Since parents over there prefer to have boys rather than girls, a lot of girl babies were aborted or simply killed at birth. Now China is having problems with a rise of homosexuality in its country. Well, what did they expect, after forcing families to have only boys?
