Out of the Closet, Instructions on how to comment and a couple of shout outs

Aside from my little nuances railing against our village idiot and chief I rarely get to mount my high horse and give my opinion on observations I have made since starting this blog.  Don’t worry dear readers this will not be a usual thing.  My self absorption will be brief.

I write this because in spite of my dedication to privacy for myself (and the readers of this column) you might be surprised to know I am quite up front to people I know about writing this blog.  I take the simple attitude of if you don’t like what I do,  simply don’t talk to me.

Much to my surprise the reaction to most of the males I have told (and a few females) about this blog has been quite positive.  From men, The reaction I get (at least to my face) is almost adulation and respect.  Its almost like I am doing something that at the primitive level of their brains they always wanted to do.  I write about spanking!

Case and point,  Last weekend I finally had the time to go out to Long Island to hang out with my Birth brother.  You see dear readers,  I am adopted,  I found these people a couple of years ago and we have become quite good friends.  Rather then get into the specifics of the relationship,  Lets just say I let him in on my little project here on The Spanking Spot.

After the initial shock my “little” brother was quite supportive of what I was doing so much so that he could be reading this.  However the most interesting thing was on Saturday Night when we went to visit a friend of his.  Now if you have ever seen the movie “Boogie Nights” the place we went to visit was much like the scene where the main character goes to steal drugs from a rather odd gentleman with an oriental guy wandering the room aimlessly throwing firecrackers every now and then while the 80’s song “Sister Christian”

From within the rather odd setting my Birth brother announced to the room about my involvement with my little blog here.  At which point  one of the gentleman present jumped up and yelled gleefully ”I AM TOTALLY INTO SPANKING” and then proceeded to drag me upstairs to introduce him to his girl friend (in front of everyone) and ask if he could spank her for my site (much to the protests of his quite professionally employed girlfriend). I was then mobbed with questions from various people in the room both male and female

The moral of this story dear readers, and what I am finding is there are more spanko’s out there then we know.  Oddly enough before in the 90’s I found spanking on the Usenet I was quite convinced I was the only one and since I started this blog I am beginning to realize how big the potential community is.

Ok off to another topic.  I am finding other then then my thankfully die hard commenter’s there are a quite a few people who come though this site regularly and do not comment.  Driving home this weekend the idea came to me that perhaps they didn’t know how to comment.  so here are instructions

1) CLICK ON COMMENTS
2) WRITE SOMETHING!
3) PRESS SUBMIT

Finally a shout out.  Jane Warmbottom (great name) emailed me asking for a link.  Its a pretty good start IMHO for a blog.  She can be found at Spankingpics

Yes, I’ve always suspected that there are a LOT more spanking enthusiasts out there than we’ve all previously thought. Look at the number of young women, post high school moving toward college, or early twenties, jumping at getting the chance to be in spanking videos these days. All of them say they’ve always been into it and once they found out that they could find trust worthy people who would not only spank them, but pay them for it, too, they jumped at the chance.

I figure that for every one of those women, there are maybe three men…

I have also found that many people who are into spanking were not spanked as children. Many young adults have been raised without the use of corporal punishment these days. That’s why they’re so curious, and yes, even aroused by it, I think.

There are thousands of us yes, but most of us are just little amateur players. I like to comment on blogs but then I go back a day or two later to see who else has commented on the same post and see names like Leia-Ann Woods, Lucy Mclean, Dave from Cherry Red etc etc and its great to see what the big names have to say on a subject so I hope to keep reading their comments and hope they keep leaving them. But that leaves me looking at what I have said and sometimes I think “well who the hell cares what I have to say about this, in such company” So maybe the lack of comments from visitors is caused by a a sense of intimidation either real or imagined.

Having said that I have always felt most comfortable commenting at Niki Flynn’s “not a blog” Ms Flynn is just so welcoming to us fans.

Yours (expecting to have this point explained ten times better by Amber Pixie Wells or Richard Windsor or Pandora Blake or…………….)

Hi Prefectdt. Sorry to hear that you feel intimidated by industry related people or well-known bloggers leaving comments on other’s blogs. But really, we’re just normal folk too and simply sharing our two cents on a topic. Our opinion is no more or less valuable than your own. Enjoy reading posts and if you have something you’d like to respond to, then do so in confidence as your comments are just as welcomed as anyone else’s.

    Prefectdt,

Your point is valid and requires no further explanation :-) I’m also sorry that you feel somewhat intimidated. If it helps, I would welcome your comments and opinions on my blog, the more the merrier.

One thing that I think you will find from other bloggers commenting on posts, is that we all have blogs and we know that we all welcome comments. So if I see a post with no comments, or a post with a healthy set of comments, I like to either give a boost or add my two cents to let the blogger know someone is reading and paying attention.

I agree with Pixie, you should never feel that your opinion is any less, or any more than anybody else’s. Your opinions are very valuable, it’s part of the reason we do blogs, to get the opinions of every other spanko who reads or views it. I can assure you that your comments and opinions would be viewed with the same respect as any other poster, whether they have a known name or not.

Trust me when I say this, when we receive comments the first thing we look at is the content of the comment itself, not the person writing it.

    Richard Windsor.

I’ve noticed that Match.com (a very vanilla dating website) has a new feature called Matchwords and it includes “spank”, “fetish”, “submissive”…. Talk about spanking getting into the mainstream!

just to say again how much i like this blog, especially the interviews…

i kind of agree with prefectdt, but i think it’s also really nice to have the stars commenting on blogs. i think having people like pixie and richard around makes the whole spanking community so much more close-knit – the people you see in videos you can also chat to on blogs; there’s no distancing (and I love the work you two do btw!).

as for lots of people out there being into spanking, well…i hope so!

Same as Dominic. I love the interviews. I like the fact you show there are living, breathing people who share our kink, of their own free will. It’s fun to learn the various ways a model can come to spanking.

This blog is also a great way to ’shop’ for membership to a spanking site. Brushstrokes, you’re very good at showcasing what a site does. You describe the product, but also capture the feel of a particular site.

As for the opportunity to chat with or comment on a model’s blog, so much the better! :)

  • Lovely Autumn Colour

That’s very handy to know about Match.com barespanker :-) .

Thanks for the reassurance Miss Wells and Mr Windsore. Personaly I do not feel intimidated just a little out classed, but I was trying to point out why others may not comment.By the way I read and love both your blogs.

Totaly agree with Dominic and Smallhanded about the interviews, and as I am more of a DVD buyer than a site joiner (Paul the webmaster over at Northern Spanking knows why and is probably still swearing about it) Please keep the DVD reviews coming too Mr Brushstrokes.

Well, as Pixie once wrote on her fine blog, maybe there is no such thing as vanilla? That to me is like saying the sky is yellow, but who knows really?!

Regarding leaving comments, I think most feel more comfortable lurking and one can’t really force folks to comment. Almost all bloggers as you know share the same lack of comment issues.

    Keep on bloggin’ my man,

I enjoy your site. I am just shy about commenting. I don’t think my husband would like it if I left my real name. :-(

I am jsut getting him to spank me after twenty years of marriage. He is very dominant–more than I want him to be–but vanilla in bed. I figure if I have to be submissive than i should get the good stuff too!

    love, Kas
